As I think about it, the top of the fantasy draft this year is a difficult spot for a Green Bay Packers fan. Let's say you have the top pick in your league's draft. RB Adrian Peterson is great, but you know, he's a Viking. RB Arian Foster was a monster in 2010 but his latest injury woes have left me worried. He should play, but a bad hamstring could make him more ordinary. You could always draft QB Aaron Rodgers. While he's a legitimate 1st round player in most leagues, he would be a reach at the top and you risk outrage from your fellow managers.
One player I really like is Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles, who should be in the Top 5 or 6 of nearly every draft, but I'm not convinced he should go any higher. I asked Joel Thorman at Arrowhead Pride about the fantasy value of his team's star running back:
Q: I debated drafting Jamaal Charles ahead of Arian Foster in my fantasy draft, but I was concerned that the Chiefs might not use him in the red zone enough. Is Todd Haley still going to use Thomas Jones too much next season?
A: Thomas Jones and Le'Ron McClain now so I don't think Charles becomes a touchdown machine by any means. As for fantasy, he'll get a few more carries so I think he's a good bet to turn in a solid year. A better bet, in my opinion, than Foster and his shaky hamstring.
Unfortunately I don't expect he'll play much against the Packers on Thursday, so we probably won't get a good look at him.
