Green Bay Packers running back Cedric Benson, who will miss at least eight weeks with a Linsfranc injury, has been placed on injured reserve. He is the Packers' one return exemption player, meaning he is eligible to come off injured reserve and return to the team later in the year.

This makes sense, given that as the season goes on, there is less of a chance that a player who suffers a long-term injury will recover in time to return to the team. This gives the Packers the option of signing another running back, though my guess is that they'll stick with what they have for the moment. Regardless of what Ted Thompson plans on doing with the newly opened roster spot, expect the Packers to make some kind of signing before this weekend.
