D.J. Smith ruled out for the season

The Packers have lost their second inside linebacker of the year. D.J. Smith will join Desmond Bishop on the sidelines for the remainder of the season.

On the same day that the Green Bay Packers placed running back Brandon Saine on injured reserve, they have also declared that linebacker D.J. Smith will miss the rest of the season. The exact injuries to both are yet to be confirmed, but both players are widely believed to have sustained torn ACLs.

Smith suffered the injury when he went down awkwardly on a block that caused his knee to twist. Unlike Saine, he has not yet been placed on injured reserve, and the team is yet to sign a replacement. However, some sort of roster move with Smith is inevitable if the team has already confirmed that he is done for the year.

This is a big blow to the Packers, who are already without starting inside linebacker Desmond Bishop. Brad Jones, a former outside linebacker, played inside linebacker in Smith's place for the remainder of Sunday night's game against the Houston Texans and performed well.
