As we start our Thursday let's go over some news that came out late Wednesday. As always, the Packers and Cardinals released their first injury reports following practice. Here's what things look like on the Packers end:
Name | Position | Injury | Wed. Practice Status |
Donald Driver | WR | Neck/Thumb | Limited Particpation |
Jermichael Finley | TE | Shoulder | Limited Participation |
John Kuhn | FB | Hamstring | Did Not Participate |
T.J. Lang | LG | Elbow/Wrist | Limited Participation |
Mike Neal | DE | Ankle | Did Not Participate |
Jordy Nelson | WR | Hamstring | Did Not Participate |
Nick Perry | OLB | Knee/Wrist | Did Not Participate |
B.J. Raji | NT | Ankle | Limited Participation |
Aaron Rodgers | QB | Calf | Full Participation |
Sam Shields | CB | Ankle | Did not Participate |
Charles Woodson | DB | Collarbone | Out |
Jerel Worthy | DE | Concussion | Did Not Participate |
Greg Jennings | WR | Groin/Abdomen | Out |
Once again the list is long so let's focus on the highlights. Remember earlier in the week when it was reported that Nelson was close to returning? Yes, many of us hoped that he would be back in time for this game. Well this list should wake you up from that dream. If it didn't on its own then I'll also pass along that Nelson isn't going to practice Thursday either. No, he's going to rehab Thursday and then they will test it again on Friday. Not a good sign.
Another not a good sign is the fact that the Packers had four healthy defensive linemen available for practice on Wednesday. With Neal and Raji nursing bad ankles and Worthy with a concussion (Lord only knows what that means for his availability) things are looking mighty thing along the defensive front. Similarly not helping matters is the fact that Perry is still not back at practice. At this point I'm not expecting to see him back until after the bye at the soonest.
I guess coach McCarthy wasn't kidding last week in his post game press conference when he said that the team might basically have the same 46 players again versus the Cardinals. Heck, they might even have less without Worthy and Neal.
Speaking of the Cardinals here is their injury report on Wednesday:
Name | Position | Injury | Wed. Practice Status |
D'Anthony Batiste | T | Toe | Full Participation |
Darnell Dockett | DT | Hamstring | Full Participation |
Jim Dray | TE | Knee | Full Participation |
Jamell Fleming | CB | Back | Full Participation |
Todd Heap | TE | Knee | Limited Participation |
Kevin Kolb | QB | Ribs | Did Not Participate |
Mike Leach | LS | Back | Limited Participation |
Kerry Rhodes | FS | Back | Limited Participation |
Anthony Sherman | FB | Knee | Full Participation |
Adam Snyder | G | Quadricep | Did Not Participate |
Greg Toler | CB | Hamstring | Limited Participation |
Cardinal fans may disagree about this, but this looks down right manageable compared to the Packers. The most troubling about this is the injury to Kolb. So far this year Kolb has out played John Skelton and it seems Kolb gives the Cardinals the best opportunity to win, or he would if he is available. Out of all these players only two, Kolb and Snyder, were available for practice on Wednesday. Maybe Coach Whisenhunt is getting through to his players after all.
