The Green Bay Packers have listed starting linebacker Clay Matthews as out on their injury report for this week's match-up against the Detroit Lions, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The 26-year-old has sat out for over a week now with a hamstring injury.
The Packers knew that Matthews was going to miss Sunday's game against Detroit a while ago so they've been planning accordingly, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said while speaking with reporters during a post-practice news conference. The initial timetable for his return was two weeks, and this counts as his second week on the sidelines.
Without Matthews, Green Bay will once again have to depend on other players to bolster its pass rush, this time against a good Lions passing offense. He's recorded 31 tackles and nine sacks, still good enough to be tied for fourth in the NFL, while appearing in eight of Green Bay's nine games.
