How Greg Jennings Compares To Marques Colston

Marques Colston Gets $40 Million Over Five Years From Saints, According To Report - SBNation.com. Maybe Marques Colston is worth more to the Saints than to another team because he's the beneficiary of catching passes from Drew Brees. Maybe he's an injury risk (he missed two games last season) and maybe his lack of speed isn't a selling point. But he is a true No. 1 receiver who's always good for 1000 yards and 5 to 10 touchdowns. There aren't a lot of guys like him around.

His new contract is for five-years and $40 million, with $20 million guaranteed. I thought he might sign for more. When Greg Jennings talks extension with the Green Bay Packers, this contract will be one of his top comparables. Both Jennings and Colston are 28 and have six years of experience. In 2012, Jennings will be on the final year of a four-year, $26.885 million ($16.25 million guaranteed) which isn't much less than the new contract Colston received.

But both sides will probably wait until Vincent Jackson signs somewhere other then San Diego, and they'll maybe even want to see what Calvin Johnson's next contract looks like.
