Interesting timing I had on that poll, huh? A lot of us really thought that the market for Wells would not be exceptional due to his age and demands, and that he would be required to lower his demands to a point where the Green Bay Packers became a player for his services. Apparently, I was wrong.
The terms of the deal aren't yet available, but it's safe to assume that the Rams gave Wells more than the Packers were willing to pay. We'll update when we learn the terms of the contract. He's a top-notch center, but the Packers didn't have enough cap room to pay top dollar for a very good 31-year-old center. Ted Thompson stuck to his guns, and ultimately, we were reminded that football is a business.
I wish Wells all the best in St. Louis. The search for a replacement center is now on.
