Packers Injury News: Nine Active Players Out For Bengals Game

Nine active players, in addition to the players on the PUP and IR lists, are out for the Green Bay Packers' third preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals. For those players currently on the roster bubble, the lack of game time is probably going to hurt.

Desmond Bishop is obviously out after picking up a hamstring injury that will keep him out for at least the first half of the season. Davon House also remains out with a shoulder injury, and we're getting close to the point where he will have to be evaluated for surgery. They're the only two players who were expected to be starters this season that remain out for the Bengals game. Jermichael Finley and Greg Jennings are back in action and will play Thursday.

Also out are Duane Bennett, Andrew Datko, Ray Dominguez, Jon Hoese, Brandon Saine, Shaky Smithson and James Starks. Get ready for a lot of work, Cedric Benson and Alex Green. The team's depth issues at running back continue to be a problem, and they're really going to need one of Starks or Saine to get totally healthy soon. Both are expected to recover from their injuries shortly, but their persisting absence is concerning.

Bennett, Hoese and Smithson were always long shots to make the team, and I feel like Datko is going to hang onto a roster spot. In addition to Saine, Dominguez could have his place on the team damaged by his inability to play. He's been solid when playing at guard in previous preseasons and last season, but with Reggie Wells' signing, Dominguez might find himself as the odd man out when the team cuts down to 53 players.
