Green Bay Packers Injury Update: Eight Players Confirmed Out For Week 1 Of Preseason

Presswire

A total of eight players will not play in Thursday night's preseason game against the San Diego Chargers, in addition to the players who were previously on the physically unable to perform list. The biggest name on that list is Greg Jennings, who is out with a concussion. As with all concussions, there's no timetable for Jennings' return. He could be back on Friday or he could be out for weeks, for all we know.

The other players who will miss out are: Duane Bennett (knee), Ray Dominguez (ankle), Tori Gurley (groin), Jon Hoese (hamstring), Eric Lair (knee), Mike McCabe (hip), Ryan Taylor (concussion). There's no word on how soon any of those players will be back. As a reminder, the guys currently on the PUP list are Jaymes Brooks, Johnny Jones, Andrew Quarless, Derek Sherrod and Frank Zombo.

A few other guys could potentially miss out, though they haven't been confirmed in or out either way. Sam Shields has an elbow injury and Brandon Saine has picked up a hamstring injury. Marshall Newhouse has been sitting out practice with a concussion, but could return.

Because of the injuries at running back, Marc Tyler is going to get an opportunity to get a lot of carries. Andrew Datko is also likely to see a lot of snaps as a result of injuries at the left tackle position. In the very tight wide receiver spot, Diondre Borel will probably be given plenty of snaps as a result of the injuries to Gurley and Jennings.
