The Packers took the practice field this afternoon, and we have some more good tidings to bring on the injury front. 51 of the 53 players on the active roster practiced today, a far cry from the days in training camp when a quarter of the roster couldn't take the field.
While B.J. Raji wasn't a full participant in practice today, the fact that he's practicing at all is obviously good news for the Packers' defense. Furthermore, Mike McCarthy said in his press conference today that Raji "looked good", and it sounds like both Raji and fellow defensive lineman Ryan Pickett will not be limited for Sunday's game against the 49ers. They'll be needed on the line against the 49ers' strong rushing attack, which likely will force the Packers to play more snaps out of of their base 3-4 defense and fewer in the nickel than they usually would against other opponents.
Tom Crabtree's status is also up in the air with his shoulder injury, as he was limited in practice. If he can't play on Sunday, Ryan Taylor would likely see a lot of time on special teams and on offense as a blocking tight end. Davon House was also limited, but he did participate on a "rep count", as McCarthy described, and will be evaluated as the week goes on. It doesn't look good for him playing this week, but the fact that he's back on the field and going through drills is a good sign.
Robert Francois and Jamari Lattimore were the other players who didn't practice fully today, but Francois sounds like he's farther along in his recovery than Lattimore. I'd expect Francois to play Sunday with Lattimore to be questionable.
James Starks' turf toe injury kept him out of practice on Wednesday, and it will almost certainly mean that he will miss Sunday's game. With him not really participating in training camp much, this is no surprise, and the team will proceed with Cedric Benson and Alex Green as the top running backs. The only other player who missed practice completely was safety Sean Richardson.
The official preliminary injury report should be released sometime this evening.
