As the Packers' turn in the 2013 SBNation mock draft approaches, we find ourselves continuing to look for players who can help both in the 2013 season and beyond. Several prospects who seem to be good fits have come off the board in recent picks, including offensive lineman Barrett Jones (40th overall to the Titans), defensive lineman Kawann Short (44th overall to the Panthers), and running back Eddie Lacy (46th overall to the Rams). However, there are a number of great prospects still available.
With our pick scheduled to be in and posted by noon Eastern time today, it's your turn to vote on who we should select, keeping in mind that tight end Tyler Eifert was our pick in round one. You can find the second round picks at the bottom of this page, and note that the Miami Dolphins blog, The Phinsider, recently selected wide receiver Ryan Swope with the 54th pick.
Here are our candidates:
Travis Frederick, C, Wisconsin
Frederick is the top center remaining on the board, and many have him ranked higher than Barrett Jones. He's definitely a strong, powerful player, but his technique is solid and it's certainly possible he could thrive in a zone-blocking system.
John Jenkins, DT, Georgia
Jenkins is our top-rated tackle remaining, and playing the 3-4 nose position in college will help ease his transition if he were to join the Packers. With the contract statuses of several Packers' defensive linemen very much up in the air, Jenkins could rotate in to help spell Ryan Pickett in 2013 before potentially taking over as a full-time starter in 2014.
Brandon Williams, DT, Missouri Southern
Another talented nose tackle, Williams played very well at the Senior Bowl when stepping up to big-time competition.
Quinton Patton, WR, Louisiana Tech
Patton seems to be right in the Packers' wheelhouse in terms of wide receivers. He's something around 6 feet tall and a little shy of 200 pounds, he has excellent hands and route-running skills, and he's more quick than purely fast. This would be a very solid addition to the Packers' arsenal of offensive weapons, but does selecting Tyler Eifert make you less likely to want a receiver in round two?
Margus Hunt, DE, SMU
This is a popular name that has been bandied about lately, and Hunt's physical tools are staggering. The problem is that he doesn't yet have a great feel for the game and seems to need quite a bit of experience in order to be a consistent difference-maker on defense.
