Randall Cobb Injury: Reciever Has Broken Fibula, Recovery Now 6-8 Weeks

The Packers' Swiss Army Knife will likely be on the shelf for half the season, as we now know that he has broken a bone in his leg.

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier this afternoon, we told you about a series of varying estimates on the recovery of Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb. First, we only knew from what Mike McCarthy said that he would be out "multiple weeks." Then, ESPN's Adam Schefter gave Packers fans hope by tweeting that Cobb would likely only be out two weeks. Shortly after that, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport gave a more pessimistic, but still not debilitating 4-week recovery estimate.

But, as always, trust people close to the source. Tyler Dunne of the Green Bay Press Gazette now has the most recent, but also most pessimistic recovery estimate for Cobb, but this one finally comes with some real details on what the injury is:

Well, there go the happy feelings. In case you're curious, the fibula is the smaller of the two bones in the lower leg.

It seems likely that with this news, Cobb would be an ideal candidate for the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return classification, as those players must sit for eight weeks before being reactivated. The good news, of course, is that there's still a good chance that Cobb could come back yet this season...but the bad news is that if he's put on IR/DTR, that would keep him out until preparations for week 15.
