Another Wednesday, another long list of injuries for the Green Bay Packers to report. This week's report isn't necessarily as long as others have been in the past, but it's no less impactful than those in recent weeks. After breaking his thumb, the team has ruled outside linebacker Clay Matthews out for Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens. This came as no surprise, since it was announced yesterday that he had surgery and was likely to miss about a month.
Unfortunately, the player who starts next to him is out this week as well. That's inside linebacker Brad Jones, who has been one of the Packers' steadiest defensive players over the team's first four games. Jones injured his hamstring against the Lions and left the game, and he is apparently set back far enough that the team already knows that he will not play this week either.
With Robert Francois going on injured reserve this week, that leaves Jamari Lattimore as the impending starter next to A.J. Hawk for this week and potentially beyond. At outside linebacker, expect Mike Neal and Nick Perry to start. Thankfully, both had excellent games against the Lions and will look to continue that solid play against a good offensive line in Baltimore.
On the other hand, cornerback Casey Hayward has not been ruled out this week, and has a chance to play for the first time in the 2013 regular season. However, he didn't get the week of practice off on a good foot, as he was not participating in today's drills.
Here's the team's full injury report from today's practice:
Player | Position | Injury | Wednesday Status |
Jarrett Bush | Cornerback | Hamstring | Did not practice |
Casey Hayward | Cornerback | Hamstring | Did not practice |
Andy Mulumba | Outside linebacker | Unspecified | Did not practice |
Brad Jones | Inside linebacker | Hamstring | Out |
Clay Matthews | Outside linebacker | Thumb | Out |
James Starks | Running back | Knee | Out |
Greg Van Roten | Center/Guard | Foot | Out |
