Packers Teammates of the Week: Scott Tolzien and Jarrett Boykin

In the NFL, you need to rely on your teammates in order to win. This week, the Packers' quarterback/wide receiver answered the call and earned Teammates of the Week honors, brought to you by Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Generally speaking, when the Packers score only 13 points and give up 27, it's difficult to assign any positive individual superlatives. Fortunately, Scott Tolzien and Jarrett Boykin stood out in a significant way this past weekend, helping an otherwise dormant offense move the chains.

Once Tolzien entered the game for the injured Seneca Wallace, Boykin quickly established himself as his favorite target. The two connected for 112 yards, twice as many as the next most productive receiver. Perhaps just as importantly, several of these catches came on critical third downs, allowing the Packers to stay on the field.

During the game, several observers pondered aloud why, with Jordy Nelson and James Jones available, Boykin became the top target for Tolzien. Of the many possible explanations, the most likely reason is familiarity. Tolzien has spent the entire season up until this point running the scout team. And who's the top receiver on the scout team? You guessed it, Jarrett Boykin. When a quarterback and receiver spend that much time together, it's natural for them to pick up the idiosyncrasies of the other.

If the Packers are going to have a chance this week against the Giants, they're going to need a repeat of Tolzien and Boykin's performance.
