Packers Reportedly "Unlikely" to Claim Matt Flynn off Waivers

If you're hoping for the Packers to pick up former backup Matt Flynn, you can probably stop that line of thinking right now.

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sport

To those Packers fans wishing for Matt Flynn to make a return to Green Bay, it's time to burst that bubble. It appears that the Green Bay front office is not seriously considering putting in a waiver claim on Flynn, who was waived by the Buffalo Bills this weekend.

ESPN's Rob Demovsky is on the case, explaining why:

Sure, a Flynn return to Green Bay would be a feel-good story...at least for a few days. But if Aaron Rodgers does indeed have to miss a few games and Flynn were to perform poorly in relief, Ted Thompson and company would look bad for signing a player based on sentiment over on-field capability.

Sure, there's no guarantee that Seneca Wallace will be able to keep the Packers' offense afloat if Rodgers is out, but there's no guarantee with Flynn either. Apparently Thompson agrees.
