It's a big day for a number of college football teams today, as the two spots in the National Championship game hang in the balance. Florida State and Ohio State will likely play for the title if they both win today, but if either team loses it probably opens up a spot for the SEC Champion to play for the crystal football. If both of those two teams lose...yikes.
Here are the big games going on today.
#17 Oklahoma Sooners (9-2) at #6 Oklahoma State Cowboys (10-1)
11:00 AM Central
ABC
Boone Pickens Stadium
Stillwater, Oklahoma
On the line: with a win, Oklahoma State clinches the Big XII title and a berth in the Fiesta Bowl (since it holds head-to-head tiebreakers over Texas and Baylor). If Oklahoma wins, the winner of the afternoon game between Texas and Baylor in Waco wins the conference instead.
SEC Championship Game: #3 Auburn Tigers (11-1) vs. #5 Missouri Tigers (11-1)
3:00 PM Central
CBS
Georgia Dome
Atlanta, Georgia
On the line: The winner of this game would clinch a berth in the Sugar Bowl at worst. If Florida State or Ohio State were to lose today, the winner of this game would likely earn a berth in the National Championship game.
(NOTE: games between teams with the same mascot are dumb. Be more creative with your names, SEC teams.)
Pac-12 Championship Game: #7 Stanford Cardinal (10-2) at #11 Arizona State Sun Devils (10-2)
6:45 PM Central
ESPN
Sun Devil Stadium
Tempe, Arizona
On the line: Neither team will make the Championship game, so this is a play-in for the Rose Bowl. With three losses, the loser likely will be out of consideration for any BCS bowls.
ACC Championship Game: #1 Florida State Seminoles (12-0) vs. #20 Duke Blue Devils (10-2)
7:00 PM Central
ABC
Bank of America Stadium
Charlotte, North Carolina
On the line: Florida State goes to the title game with a win based on their lead in the human polls. If Duke wins, they get a berth in the Orange Bowl, while Florida State should still get an at-large BCS bid.
Big Ten Championship Game: #2 Ohio State Buckeyes (12-0) vs. #10 Michigan State Spartans (11-1)
7:00 PM Central
FOX
Lucas Oil Stadium
Indianapolis, Indiana
On the line: Ohio State is probably in the Championship game with a win, barring a surprise in the polls. Michigan State probably will be in the Rose Bowl either way, as long as they don't get blown out and drop below #14 in the final BCS standings.
