Last night, Mel Kiper had projected Alabama running back Eddie Lacy to the Green Bay Packers, on the basis that a running back would go in the first round and this seemed like a solid fit. Of course, that's terrible logic to use to project anyone, anywhere. He updated his mock last night, however, and his new pick (and logic) is a bit more up my alley.
Kiper notes that he may make changes between now and the draft, but that this should be more or less his final draft. You can find his mock behind ESPN Insider's paywall here. Because it's behind a paywall I'm not going to copy and paste all of his analysis, but he's currently projecting UCLA DT/DE Datone Jones to the Packers.
He notes that Jones, who is a bit undersized for the 3-4 DE position, is big and strong enough to play the spot and that his athleticism will help him split gaps. I'm a big fan of Jones and would love the pick if he was still available, and I hope he's still sitting there at 26.
