Sam Shields has signed his restricted free agent tender and will play for the Green Bay Packers next season. Shields, who was hoping to work out a lucrative long-term contract with the team, had been holding off on inking his tender with the team. He can still work out a new contract and is almost certainly still negotiating with the team, but will be scheduled to make just over $2 million this season. Adam Schefter passed along the news first.
Packers CB Sam Shields just signed his RFA tender for $2.023 million.

The Packers certainly don't have a clearly defined top corner or starting pair at the moment, but have plenty of depth at the position. With Shields missing early OTAs, Casey Hayward spent some time working on the outside. With Hayward, Tramon Williams and Davon House all on the team, Shields couldn't afford to miss the start of training camp if he wanted a chance to start this season and play his way into a big deal, either with the Packers or someone else.
