Packers Rank 5th In Driving Up Ticket Prices on the Road

New, comments

It should be no surprise that tickets to see the Green Bay Packers are among the most desirable in the NFL.

Would it surprise you if I said that ticket prices tend to rise when the Green Bay Packers come to town? What if I told you that they are in the top 5 road draws in the National Football League?

That's what Vivid Tickets reported, as the ticket reseller broke down each NFL team and how they impact ticket prices when they go on the road. As of early August, the Packers opponents who host Green Bay saw an increase of 39.8% over their average ticket prices on that marketplace. That was good for the 5th-highest overall increase in the NFL, with only the Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, and New England Patriots ahead of them.

Another interesting nugget is that at the time the data was analyzed, those five teams, including the Packers, showed increases over average prices in every one of their eight regular season road games. This weekend, for example, the Packers head to San Francisco to play the 49ers; as of last month, tickets for Sunday's game were going for an average price that's 63% higher than all other 49ers home games.

Why does this happen?

Well, first and foremost, the Packers are a perennial playoff team, and fans of the home team are more likely to pay more money to see good visiting teams. Second, the Packers have star power with players like Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthews.

The third, and possibly most important factor, is that Packers fans travel as well as or better than fans of any other NFL team. Part of this is due to the team's ownership aspect instilling a personal stake in its shareholders. Another fact is that Packers fans can be found quite literally anywhere in the world.

Whatever the reason, a higher-priced ticket is a double-edged sword. It's a sign of a stable, successful team with a devoted fan base, but it of course means that said tickets will be tougher to obtain. In any case, it's always good to know that people want to see our team play in other markets, whether they are fans of the Packers or of the home team.
