Following a season where opponents regularly burnt Green Bay over the middle and in the deep passing game, two of the Packers' biggest needs are inside linebacker and defensive back.
The front office certainly noticed, and some potential solutions have already been scouted.
Multiple sources tell Acme Packing Company that Green Bay's scouting department has looked at Lindenwood defensive back Pierre Desir on several occasions, including sending three scouts to watch him in person on November 19th against Pittsburg State. While teams will sometimes take multiple looks at a player they aren't interested in, rarely will they send a large percentage of their staff in order to do so.
Perhaps the reason for Green Bay's interest is Desir's ability to play safety. While he's spent most of his time at corner during practices for the East-West Shrine Game and Senior Bowl, many believe the 6-1, 206 pound defensive back might fit better at free safety.
Desir wouldn't be the first small school defensive back the Packers have shown interest in. Green Bay spent a second-round pick on All-Pro safety Nick Collins, a product of Bethune-Cookman. After strong performances in the Shrine Game and Senior Bowl, Desir is believed to be a day-two pick.
Another source informed Acme Packing Company that the Packers have shown interest in Hawaii middle linebacker Brenden Daley. According to the source, the Packers watched Daley in person during Hawaii's matchups with USC, UNLV, and Navy. Daley certainly fits the mold of a Green Bay inside linebacker.
The same source reported that Daley currently runs the 40 in the low 4.7 range and expects to get down into the mid-4.6s by Hawaii's Pro Day. That, combined with his size (6-3, 255) could also allow Daley to play at outside linebacker in the Packers' 3-4 scheme.
