Continuing on with the Acme Packing Company Mock Draft, we break down the 12th overall pick held by the New York Giants.

Background

If you're having trouble recalling the 2013 New York Giants, let me help:

These are the faces of epic failure, folks. And while Eli Manning best personified the Giants 2013 campaign, he wasn't their sole problem. Sure Manning threw for a Favre-ian 27 interceptions last year, but he was also under siege - getting sacked a whopping 39 times (more than double the number of times from 2012).

And while Manning, the offensive line and two-thirds of the Giants receivers spent 2013 taking a huge crap all over the field, they weren't without some bright spots. Justin Tuck experienced a bit of a career renaissance with 11 sacks and good run support. And Jon Beason - acquired mid-year via trade with the Panthers - showed flashes of what made him one of the league's better linebackers before injuries slowed him down.

All in all, the Giants finished 7-9, which doesn't look horrendous on paper, but don't let their record fool you. The Giants were straight up bad and with Tuck and wide receiver Hakeem Nicks now departed in free agency, the Giants future for 2014 is plenty cloudy. For this reason, the Giants go with the best player available at #12 in an effort to add more playmakers.

With the 12th pick in the 2014 NFL draft, the Giants select...

Name: Eric Ebron
Position: Tight End
School: North Carolina
Year: Junior

The Giants could certainly use an offensive tackle, but with Jake Matthews and Greg Robinson gone, they add this year's best tight end prospect, Eric Ebron. At this point, Ebron couldn't block a tackling dummy but who cares? He fits the new breed of NFL tight ends - tall, uber-athletic and strong - giving Eli Manning a big target he can get the ball to quickly. What makes Ebron even more intriguing is that even though he's an accomplished college player (Mackey award finalist, broke Vernon Davis' single-season ACC receiving record for tight ends) he'll only be 21 years old when he enters camp, meaning his ceiling is still a ways out.
