Remember those crappy days in late September and early October when there weren't any good college football games on? Yeah, those days are long gone. This week, we have a schedule with five games between ranked teams (including a whopping TWO in the Big Ten!). Though Mississippi State-Alabama will be the headliner this week, Nebraska-Wisconsin will likely determine the Big Ten West winner and we'll also find Florida State getting one of its stiffest tests yet this season.
Here are the games on this Saturday.
Early Kickoffs
#8 Ohio State Buckeyes at #25 Minnesota Golden Gophers
11:00 AM CT
TCF Bank Stadium
Minneapolis, MN
ABC
What to watch for: the temperature is expected to be 21 degrees at kickoff. At least they put heating coils under the field after the Vikings were forced to play at TCF when the Metrodome's roof collapsed.
#19 Clemson Tigers at #22 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
11:00 AM CT
Bobby Dodd Stadium
Atlanta, GA
ESPN
What to watch for: the battle of the second-place-in-their-division teams is a de facto ACC third-place game.
Afternoon Games
#1 Mississippi State Bulldogs at #5 Alabama Crimson Tide
2:30 PM CT
Bryant-Denny Stadium
Tuscaloosa, AL
CBS
What to watch for: I guess there's that thing about one of the two undefeated power-conference teams playing a road game against a divisional rival who's ranked fifth. If I can't convince you that this game is at least worth flipping to when the Badgers and Huskers are on commercial, I give up.
#16 Nebraska Cornhuskers at #20 Wisconsin Badgers
2:30 PM CT
Camp Randall Stadium
Madison, WI
ABC
What to watch for: Melvin Gordon versus Ameer Abdullah. Enough said. However, see above: the second-best game in the Big Ten this year will likely draw few eyeballs outside of the Upper Midwest. Also, the last time these two teams played, this happened.
Washington Huskies at #14 Arizona Wildcats
2:30 PM CT
Arizona Stadium
Tuscon, AZ
FOX
What to watch for: who will prevail in this battle of generic mascots? It's too bad there aren't any Bulldogs-Tigers games going on to rival this one this week.
Evening Kicks
#9 Auburn Tigers at #15 Georgia Bulldogs
6:15 PM CT
Sanford Stadium
Athens, GA
ESPN
What to watch for: WAIT, WE DID IT! GENERIC MASCOTS FOR EVERYONE!
#3 Florida State Seminoles at Miami Hurricanes
7:00 PM CT
Sun Life Stadium
Miami Gardens, FL
ABC
What to watch for: the third-ranked team in the country is only a 2.5-point favorite over an unranked opponent. Miami will be jacked up for this game (even if their stadium is 60% full), so this will be the best chance for Florida State to lose before the ACC Championship Game.
