The first full day of free agency was more exciting for Green Bay Packers fans than Tuesday, but still ended up being relatively quiet. The team did make one signing, though, bringing back a defensive player on a short-term contract. Here's your recap of all the happenings from around the NFL on Wednesday, March 12th.
Packers: Signed DE/OLB Mike Neal to a 2-year contract
Neal comes back on a two-year deal, which we now have learned is worth $8 million total with a $2.5 million signing bonus.
Bears: signed S M.D. Jennings to one-year contract
LOL, at any price.
Eagles: traded a 5th-round pick to the Saints for RB Darren Sproles
I am not excited about the possibility of facing a Chip Kelly offense featuring LeSean McCoy, DeSean Jackson, AND Darren Sproles.
Panthers: releasing WR Steve Smith
It's a bit of a surprise, but SB Nation's Panthers blog breaks down why it makes sense.
Jets: signed WR Eric Decker to a 5-year, $36 million contract
Apparently the Jets are still interested in James Jones, even after spending quite a bit of money on Decker.
Raiders: voided deal with OG Rodger Saffold for failed physical
This is nuts. The Raiders doctors refused to clear Saffold after signing a 5-year, $42.5 million deal, and nixed the contract. Saffold then went right back to the Rams, his old team, and promptly signed a deal there.
Ravens: re-sign WR Jacoby Jones to four-year contract
We don't have details on the money yet. I'll be curious to see this deal to see how it affect James Jones.
Lions: signed WR Golden Tate to 5-year, $31 million contract
Gross. Now we have to deal with that guy twice a year.
Buccaneers: signed QB Josh McCown to two-year contract
Apparently Lovie Smith is committed to McCown as his starter.
Broncos: signed DE/OLB DeMarcus Ware to three-year, $30 million contract
For those of you saying the Packers should have signed Ware, would you have really wanted him coming to Green Bay at $10M per year?
Patriots: signed CB Darrelle Revis to one-year, $12 million contract
Revis will make $4 million less in New England than he would have in Tampa this year, but still has plenty of cash and can hit free agency again next year.
