Continuing on with the Acme Packing Company Mock Draft, we break down the 19th overall pick held by the Miami Dolphins.
Background
Any discussion of the Miami Dolphins must include the bullying scandal that ultimately cost the team the left side of its offensive line. More than the media scrutiny that followed Jonathan Martin's departure, what affected Miami most was the loss of two starting offensive lineman on a roster with little to no depth at either position. Once Martin and his aggressor Richie Incognito left the lineup, it was open season on Ryan Tannehill, a second year quarterback who struggled to adjust to increased pressure.
Repairing the depleted offensive line became a clear top priority for the Dolphins entering the offseason. New GM Dennis Hickey wasted little time, acquiring Chiefs offensive tackle Brandon Albert to cover Tannehill's blindside. While not quite an elite blocker, Albert provides the Dolphins consistent play they haven't seen from the blindside position since pre-injury Jake Long. Yet, Miami still lacks a competent blocker to replace what it lost in Incognito.

Perhaps more than any blocker likely to come off the board in the first round, Zack Martin possesses the versatility to play at any position along the offensive line. Primarily a left tackle at Notre Dame, Martin's low center of gravity and quick feet allow him to perform well against much larger and stronger defenders. One of the standouts at the Senior Bowl, Martin showcased his talents at guard and even practiced at center.
For Miami, the addition of Martin allows them to fill a hole somewhere on offense. Because he can play so many positions, the Dolphins can shuffle him around Tyson Clabo, Nate Garner and others until they find the right combination. Martin is NFL ready yet still has room to improve, specially with his upper body strength. Accordingly, Martin should be an easy decision for the Dolphins come May.
