2014 NFL Draft Picks: Packers select Corey Linsley in 5th round

The Green Bay Packers have beefed up their offensive line with Ohio State center Corey Linsley.

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

With the 161st overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft, the 21st pick in the 5th round, the Green Bay Packers have selected...

Corey Linsley, Center, Ohio State

The Packers were in need of some offensive line help in this draft, especially at center. They've added a body at that position, selecting Corey Linsley from Ohio State. He was a team captain for the Buckeyes and started every game for the team in both 2012 and 2013.

Based on the Packers' lack of depth at that position, he'll have every opportunity to compete for playing time. Evan Dietrich-Smith has departed, so he'll be facing a battle against J.C. Tretter in the offseason. The coaching staff seems to be high on Tretter, but that doesn't mean he should be handed the job (and that depth behind him isn't a necessity).

Linsley was given a 7th round grade by NFL.com. He was not one of SB Nation's top 200 prospects. So, a bit of a reach in the eyes of analysts, but he fits a need, was a team captain at a big program and those bench reps are impressive.
