With the 176th overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft, the 36th pick in the 5th round -- a compensatory selection -- the Green Bay Packers have selected...
Jared Abbrederis, WR, Wisconsin
Yes, you're reading that right. Every year, we have this masochistic relationship with the draft board. We hope Ted Thompson will pick up one of our favorite Badgers and, for whatever reason, it doesn't quite work out. This year, it worked out. The Packers have selected a star from Madison, and it's a wide receiver.
The Packers already went receiver once earlier in the draft, selecting a fairly similar player in Davante Adams. The biggest difference is that Abbrederis doesn't have anywhere near the ups of Adams, but he's probably a more polished route-runner. He also didn't have as good of a QB throwing to him and played against stiffer competition.
While the Packers certainly could have used another wide receiver, it wasn't the biggest position of need. Ted's now in value pick territory.
