With the 197th overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft, the 21st pick in the 6th round, the Green Bay Packers have selected...
Demetri Goodson, DB, Baylor
Demetri Goodson has had a number of injury problems during his collegiate career, but he's a very good athlete with measurables that are nothing to sniff at for a late 6th rounder. He was a basketball player at Gonzaga, but realizing that he didn't have much of a shot at the NBA, Goodson decided to give football another shot late in his career. He was injured in 2012, but was granted a medical hardship waiver and put together a solid 2013 season.
There's no indication that Goodson is a safety prospect, for those hoping for the Packers to pick up more depth at that position, but the Packers' coaching and scouting staff could tell us otherwise.
Goodson is obviously a pro-quality athlete, but he's raw and riddled with injury concerns. His selection is a calculated risk, which is probably worthwhile at this stage of the draft.
