Packers 2014 Roster Preview: Several New Additions at Running Back

A handful of young players were added to the fold at the running back position, but do any of them have a serious shot at a roster spot?

Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports

To prepare for training camp, we will be breaking down every player on the Green Bay Packers' 90-man roster in more detail, looking at contract terms and 2013 statistics, before we make our prediction for which players will make the 53-man roster at the end of training camp.

In our preview for 53-man roster predictions, today we look at the new arrivals on the year's roster at running back. They included one previous Packers player, two undrafted free agent rookies, and a second year player from San Jose State looking to prove himself in Green Bay this season.

Michael Hill

5'10", 210 pounds
Acquired: Re-signed with the Packers after being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Previous college or pro career experience:

Hill was a former Division II back at Missouri Western. In 2013, he shined at the Raycom College Football All-Star Classic rushing for 148 yards and two touchdowns on just 12 carries. While playing for the Griffons, Hill started all 14 games in 2012, and rushed for a record 2,168 yards.

2013 stats (total)

8 games played, zero starts
Rushing:  nine attempts, 23 yards

The Packers' signed Hill to their practice squad back in 2013. Before being signed by Green Bay, he spent time with the San Diego Chargers before they cut him at the end conclusion of the preseason. During the season, Hill got promoted to the 53-man roster after James Starks and John Kuhn suffered injuries, appeared in two games, and then was cut in October. The Packers re-signed him to the practice squad a few days later, and then the Buccaneers signed him in November. That was a bit to explain, but that's how the business of the NFL can work sometimes.

Rajion Neal

5'11", 220 pounds
Acquired: Signed as an undrafted rookie free agent

Previous college or pro career experience

Neal was a two-year starter and in total, rushed for 2,163 yards on the ground off of 444 carries.

2013 stats (Tennessee)

12 games, 12 starts
Rushing: 215 carries, 1,124 yards (5.2 YPC), 12 touchdowns
Receiving: 27 receptions, 108 yards (4.0 YPR)

Ladarius Perkins

5'7", 195 pounds
Acquired: Signed as an undrafted rookie free agent

Previous college or pro career experience

Perkins was another one of the 12 undrafted free agent rookies the Packers signed during the offseason. While in college at Mississippi State, he totaled 4,253 all-purpose yards and 2,554 rushing yards for his career. He rushed for 1,024 yards his junior season, and followed that up with a disappointing senior season.

2013 stats (Mississippi State)

12 games, 12 starts
Rushing: 137 carries, 542 yards (4.0 YPC), 2 touchdowns
Receiving: 27 receptions, 248 yards (9.2 YPR), 3 touchdowns

Ina Liaina

6'0", 250 pounds
Acquired: Signed as a free agent in 2014

Previous college or pro career experience

Liaina spent four years at San Jose State before spending the 2013 offseason with the Miami Dolphins. He played in 43 college games, and finished with 54 carries for 150 yards. In the pass game he hauled in 14 passes for 134 yards and three touchdowns.
