The Packers' preseason game on Friday night is a homecoming of sorts for a handful of people. Several players on the roster of the Packers' opponents, the Oakland Raiders, started their NFL careers with the Packers and will be returning for the first time as visitors. GM Reggie McKenzie worked for many years in the Green Bay front office.
Oh, and there's Charles Woodson, who made his own homecoming to Oakland last year but is back in Green Bay in silver and black for the first time since his seven-year stint with the Pack.
Those storylines might dominate the lead-up to the game, but once the pads go on it's all about player evaluation and getting the starting offense up to speed. The starters will play more than the two series they ran in St. Louis a week ago, but how much more remains to be seen. The cut-down from 90 players to 75 is only a few days away, so Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson will need to see a lot of the reserves as well to help them make some tough decisions.
