Packers HC Mike McCarthy Presser 8/25: Josh Sitton can play center

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy met with the media to discuss how his team is responding to JC Tretter's injury.

In his usual post-practice media availability, Packers head coach Mike McCarthy discussed his team's response to learning that starting center JC Tretter expects to miss 5-6 weeks with a knee injury.

  • McCarthy described his team's training camp as a period of "continuous" growth.
  • Left guard Josh Sitton has the ability to play center according to his head coach, "He's played that spot before." Sitton is one of the Packers' options to replace JC Tretter, who will miss 5-6 weeks with a leg injury.
  • McCarthy was pleased with the early reviews of Letroy Guion in camp. He noted that it's too early to expect a lot of work out of Guion so soon after rejoining practice, but he's excited about what he can bring to the defense.
  • Because of the additional work that Corey Linsley received today in camp, McCarthy believes he'll be "ready to play." Linsley, a fifth-round pick in the 2014 draft, is the only true center expected to make the final roster. If he can hold down the starting center job until Tretter returns, it'll allow the Packers to keep the rest of their offensive line unchanged.
