Packers vs. Seahawks: Gameday Inactives Report

The Packers are rolling with just four defensive linemen and four wide receivers on the active 46-man roster today.

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks have each announced their seven inactive players for tonight's game, and there are a few notable storylines to come out of that report. But before we analyze it, let's look at the inactive players:

Packers

QB Scott Tolzien
WR Jeff Janis
TE Brandon Bostick
DT Mike Pennel
LB Carl Bradford
OLB Jayrone Elliott
CB Demetri Goodson

For the Packers, inactivating Tolzien obviously means that Matt Flynn will be the backup quarterback in the event that anything happens to Aaron Rodgers. The inactivation of Jeff Janis means that Green Bay will carry just four wide receivers on the 46-man active roster today, and that they appear set to roll with Randall Cobb and Micah Hyde on punt returns and Hyde or DuJuan Harris on kickoffs.

Also interesting will be how the Packers plan to defend the run today, with Mike Pennel deactivated. That leaves the Packers with just four active defensive linemen: Datone Jones, Mike Daniels, Letroy Guion, and Josh Boyd. Expect to see Mike Neal and possibly even Julius Peppers helping out in sub packages as interior rushers tonight. Rookie preseason phenom Jayrone Elliott sits as well, as the team has five other outside linebackers to rush the passer off the edge.

Seahawks

RB Christine Michael
WR Kevin Norwood
WR Phil Bates
TE Cooper Helfet
DE Greg Scruggs
LB Kevin Pierre-Louis
CB Tharold Simon

The Seahawks, on the other hand, inactivated two of their seven (!) wide receivers, and are down backup running back Michael due to injury. Simon is a key part of the Seahawks' cornerback group, but the rest of their inactives are backup players.

Keep it here for more on tonight's game.
