The NFL Scouting Combine isn't officially over, but most of the players have completed their workouts. Armed with that new information, SB Nation's Dan Kadar has produced a new mock draft. At pick 30, he has the Green Bay Packers selecting TCU linebacker Paul Dawson.
Dawson made headlines Sunday for his combine workout, though not in a positive way. The former Horned Frog ran the 40-yard dash in a disappointing 4.93 seconds. That's a slow time for any linebacker, let alone one as undersized as Dawson. He also produced a sub-30" vertical. In other words, he's not an explosive athlete.
However, Dawson's game is predicated on instinct and quick reaction. He cleans up ball carriers and is a presence at the goal line. Though he's not the agile, do-it-all inside linebacker the Packers might be looking for, he could be a better version of Sam Barrington.
Here's what Dan said about Dawson to the Packers:
30. Green Bay Packers: Paul Dawson, LB, TCU
Dawson had a mostly bad Combine. Don't pay attention to the numbers he ran. Pay attention to his film. Go back and watch TCU's game against Minnesota and see a linebacker who would fit perfectly inside for the Packers.
