The 2014 NFL season is in the books which means every team is now looking forward to the draft. Dan Kadar of SB Nation's Mocking the Draft has a new mock draft out for perusal. For the first time this year, the mock goes two rounds deep.
At pick 30, Dan has the Packers selecting Mississippi State middle linebacker Benardrick McKinney. McKinney has 228 tackles over the course of his career in Starkville and has finished with three or more sacks in each of the last two seasons. Inside linebacker is an obvious area of need for Green Bay, and many consider McKinney the top prospect at the position.
Here's what Mocking the Draft had to say about McKinney to the Packers:
Playing Clay Matthews at middle linebacker was a fun experiment, but he still has better value getting after the passer from the outside. McKinney is a gifted athlete who would really benefit from being in the Green Bay system under coordinator Dom Capers. McKinney can make plays sideline-to-sideline, which would free Matthews up to wreak havoc in the backfield.
As for Green Bay's second pick, Dan has them selecting Washington defensive lineman Hau'oli Kikaha. The defensive line wasn't a problem area in 2014 thanks to Mike Daniels and the surprisingly play of nose tackle Letroy Guion, but there was little depth behind them. Additionally, both Josh Boyd and Datone Jones dealt with injuries this season. Adding another quality lineman to add to the rotation and eventually start would be a great get for the Packers.
