For the 2015 NFL Draft, Acme Packing Company will once again be holding a mock draft, with picks selected by our authors. Seven of us will be participating this year: myself, Jason B. Hirschhorn, Josh VanDyke, Brendan Kennedy, Kris Burke, and Ryan Bissell.
Each of the seven of us were assigned specific teams, and we'll be making the picks for them accordingly. Josh got the lucky (unlucky?) task of representing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he was on the clock for the first pick.
Buccaneers select Jameis Winston, quarterback, Florida State
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 231 pounds
Combine 40 time: 4.97 seconds
Here's Josh's explanation for the pick:
Despite his numerous off-the-field issues, Jameis Winston has all the physical tools to be a Pro Bowl caliber quarterback at the NFL level. His pocket presence, field vision, and escapability are impressive and his ability to throw into tight windows with accuracy makes him the best quarterback of the class.
Tampa Bay has weapons in Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson but no one to give them the ball. Winston would solve a lot of problems but he also could create even more. Personally, I think keeping a young man with maturity issues in his own backyard is a recipe for disaster, but I don't think the Bucs can pass on Winston's talent and potential.
