For the second time this offseason, a wide receiver once employed by the Green Bay Packers is searching for a new team. According to Scott Bair of CSN Bay Area, the Oakland Raiders have released James Jones.
2014 was Jones' first season with the Raiders after a seven-year stint in Green Bay. The veteran wideout led Oakland with 73 catches and six touchdowns. He finished second on the team in receiving yards with 666.
Jones was far more prolific as a member of the Packers. His best season came in 2012 when injuries to Jordy Nelson and Greg Jennings forced more of the offense to flow threw him. That year, Jones caught 14 touchdowns, most in the league. He also set a personal best for receiving yards with 784.
With the 2015 NFL Draft concluding over the weekend and Jones now 31 years of age, it's unclear how quickly he will find his next team. Like other veterans in his situation, Jones may have to wait until after the start of training camp or even the regular season for a roster spot to open up.
