Packers have greatest QB triumvirate in league history, per NFL.com

Bart Starr, Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers place Green Bay above every other team in a new list on NFL.com.

Fans of the Green Bay Packers like to trumpet their favorite team's history of great quarterback play. Now, they can point to the NFL's official website for support. In a recent article by NFL Media's Elliot Harrison, the Packers' quarterback triumvirate of Bart Starr, Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers ranked No. 1 in league history.

Few teams have enjoyed as much quality quarterback play as the Packers. Even historic franchises such as the Chicago Bears still have passing records held by players from the 1940s. Meanwhile, Green Bay has three signal callers that are either in the Hall of Fame or will earn induction in the future.

Another interesting feature of Harrison's list is how he ordered the quarterbacks for each franchise. Rather than list them in chronological order, Harrison instead employed a four-pronged criterion to his selections:

A) The three passers for each team are ordered how I rank them against each other.

B) Some teams' QB collections are like the "Jurassic Park" franchise -- only one stellar installment, with the latest looking awesome ... but not being around long enough yet for true perspective.

C) A few franchises employed legendary names -- like the Chiefs with Joe Montana -- but were dinged a smidge because those names became name brands in other locales.

D) EVERYTHING was considered, from stats to Super Bowls to tenures with specific teams.

Harrison's approach informs why his Packers selections are ordered as they are. Starr led the group, but was followed directly by Aaron Rodgers rather than Brett Favre.

Here's what Harrison had to say about making the Packers triumvirate his No. 1 selection:

1) Packers: Bart Starr, Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre

Easy selection here at the top. Each player in this Packers' triumvirate owns a Super Bowl ring. They also boast a combined six league MVPs and three Super Bowl MVPs.
