Packers Training Camp 2015: Mike McCarthy Day 2 Press Conference Transcript

Mike McCarthy gave an update on wide receiver Jared Abbrederis after practice Friday.

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy spoke after the second day of training camp, and below are highlights from his press conference.

On Jared Abbrederis' absence:

He suffered a concussion yesterday. He's going through the protocol.

On the first two days of practice:

The first two practices, you pay attention to structure. I think as far as getting the tempo and pursuit, cover and mechanics ... our field guys do a tremendous job. Just getting all of the little things the way you want it. The first two practices have gone well, the efforts excellent. We're off to a good start.

On the DBs:

I thought the DBs did very well. They got their hands on the ball a bunch. (Damarious) Randall had a nice play on the left boundary. That's what you're looking for.

On Clay Matthews' workload working two spots in camp:

The workload hasn't changed. He always worked this much. Where he's working has changed. He spends more time at the inside linebacker position. He played his whole career at outside linebacker.

On padded practices compared to non-padded:

I think players look different in pads, they play different. It's definitely the turning point in the training path. No doubt about it. Padded practices are the closest you get to the actual game.

On if Randall Cobb will return punts:

Absolutely. At the end of the day, you're designing plays and looking at distribution of opportunities.
