Clay Matthews and Mike Neal garnered most of the attention Monday by returning to the practice field. However, the Green Bay Packers have a new injury situation to consider with Mike Daniels' injured ankle.
Daniels fully participated during the Packers' annual Family Night on Saturday and didn't appear to hurt himself at any point during the proceedings. However, he did not dress on Monday, the team's first practice since. A team spokesman said no timetable has been set for Daniels return.
At this stage, there's no reason to suspect Daniels will miss significant time due to his ankle. However, anytime an injury keeps a player of his magnitude off the field, it's cause for at least some concern. The fourth-year end is the Packers' most impactful player along the defensive front as well as their most reliable. Daniels has never missed a game in his NFL career. Dom Capers' defense functions considerably differently with a reliable interior pass rusher, and the team doesn't have one outside of Daniels. Accordingly, his availability bears monitoring as training camp continues.
