Another week, another depth chart.
The Green Bay Packers released their second unofficial depth chart Tuesday in advance of their preseason tilt with the Pittsburgh Steelers. As with the team's first official depth chart, the order of players should be taken with a grain of salt. By and large, this chart remains the same despite the players' performances during training camp and the first exhibition game.
Offense
Position | First | Second | Third | Other (in order) |
WR |
Jordy Nelson | Davante Adams | Jeff Janis | Jimmie Hunt, Larry Pinkard |
LT | David Bakhtiari | Jeremy Vujnovich | Vince Kowalski
LG | Josh Sitton | Lane Taylor
C | Corey Linsley | JC Tretter | Garth Gerhart | Andy Phillips |
RG | T.J. Lang | Josh Walker | Matt Rotheram
RT | Bryan Bulaga | Don Barclay | Fabbians Ebbele
TE | Richard Rodgers | Andrew Quarless | Justin Perillo | Kennard Blackman, Mitchell Henry, Harold Spears |
WR | Randall Cobb | Ty Montgomery | Myles White | Jared Abbrederis, Javess Blue, Ed Williams |
QB | Aaron Rodgers | Scott Tolzien | Matt Blanchard | Brett Hundley |
RB | Eddie Lacy | James Starks | Rajion Neal | Alonzo Harris, John Crockett |
FB | John Kuhn | Aaron Ripkowski |
If this depth chart looks familiar to you, that's because nothing has really changed since last week. The Packers added a third-string tier to the chart to further distinguish the back of the roster, but the order of the offensive players remains the same. Keep in mind that this doesn't necessarily mean much, as the team listed Brett Hundley as the fourth quarterback even though he went in ahead of Matt Blanchard during the preseason opener.
Defense
Position | First | Second | Third | Other (in order) |
LDE |
Letroy Guion | Datone Jones | Khyri Thornton
NT | B.J. Raji | Mike Pennel | Bruce Gaston | Lavon Hooks |
RDE | Mike Daniels | Josh Boyd | Christian Ringo
LOLB | Clay Matthews | Nick Perry | Andy Mulumba | Adrian Hubbard, Jermauria Rasco |
LILB | Sam Barrington | Carl Bradford | Josh Francis | Tavarus Dantzler |
MLB | Nate Palmer | Jake Ryan | Joe Thomas
ROLB | Julius Peppers | Mike Neal | Jayrone Elliott | James Vaughters |
LCB | Casey Hayward | Damarious Randall | Quinten Rollins | Kyle Sebetic |
RCB | Sam Shields | Demetri Goodson | Tay Glover-Wright | LaDarius Gunter, Ryan White |
SS | Morgan Burnett | Sean Richardson | Chris Banjo
FS | Ha Ha Clinton-Dix | Micah Hyde | Jean Fanor |
The most noticeable change on the defensive depth chart is the position for Andy Mulumba, who moved from right outside linebacker to left. Still, he remains behind Mike Neal and Nick Perry, though that could change come the regular season. As with the offensive depth chart, the order doesn't necessarily reflect the players' real status on the team. Rookies Quinten Rollins and LaDarius Gunter appear to be in better standing than Demetri Goodson even though they appear behind him on the chart.
Special Teams
Position | First | Second | Third | Other (in order) |
K | Mason Crosby | Tim Masthay
P | Tim Masthay | Mason Crosby
H | Tim Masthay | Randall Cobb
PR | Micah Hyde | Ty Montgomery | Randall Cobb
KR | Ty Montgomery | Micah Hyde | Randall Cobb | Jeff Janis |
LS | Brett Goode | Justin Perillo | Don Barclay |
Meet Randall Cobb: backup holder on place kicks. Cobb's "promotion" comes after the team released punter Cody Mandell. Barring an in-game injury, don't expect to see Cobb holding kicks.
