Packers general manager Ted Thompson spoke with reporters today as his team prepares for it's third preseason game. Below are highlights from his press conference.

Thompson on Jordy Nelson's absence:

You lose players in the game sometimes and you have to go on. You have to turn to the next page. But you have extraordinary players, and with extraordinary players, you don't expect to replace them. Our whole goal is to win games despite the injury, it's as simple as that.

I think what we've always looked for guys to have fun and play football. In terms of what we're looking for, it's nothing different from what we we're looking for before.

On the defense and roster cuts:

I'm pretty confident we're going to be a pretty good defense. There's a lot of people getting playing time. We've got some huge decisions to make roster wise. I'm looking forward to the challenge and sorting through the information as fast as they come and make good decisions for the team. There's always guys who sneak under the wire.

On roster evaluations:

We're going through every team, every position all across the league. We don't focus on one spot. We look for good people and football players. That's what we look for. We don't go into these meetings with any preconceived notion of whether we want to find an older fella or younger fella.

On veterans playing in preseason games:

I understand where you guys are coming from. I'm not going to get involved in it. When you have a tough injury, it's personified a little bit more.

On Damarious Randall's interception:

I liked his interception and I like his exuberance after the interception. I think he ran faster for a celebration than anyone we've ever had.
