This year, the Green Bay Packers will enter the 2016 NFL Draft with nine selections, a healthy number and about average for a Ted Thompson draft. However, the Detroit Lions actually lead the NFC North at this point with 10 scheduled draft picks in this week's selection meeting.
Detroit picked up a pair of compensatory picks in this year's draft and another pair of third-day selections in player trades in 2015. They did lose a third-rounder during last year's draft, trading away this year's 77th pick for a fourth-rounder last year that was used to select DT Gabe Wright.
Joining the Packers with nine selections are the Chicago Bears, who added two picks to their standard seven by trading away a pair of starters in Martellus Bennett and Jared Allen. The Vikings bring up the rear with a still-healthy eight selections, having added two third-day picks of their own by trading away reserves while giving away their original sixth-rounder.
We also looked over a pair of draft value charts to give you an idea of which team has the most draft capital this year. First we have the values from the traditional NFL Draft Trade Chart, which was compiled and popularized by Jimmy Johnson. We also included the values of "expected approximate value," which were tabulated by Football Perspective's Chase Stuart in 2012. Note that Stuart and Johnson's tables end at pick 224, so any pick lower than that is assumed to have the same value as pick #224 (0.1 AV, 2 points JJ). It should come as no surprise that the Bears hold the highest total value in both measurement systems, since they will be the first NFC North team to come up on the clock barring any trades.
Here are the slots which each NFC North team occupies at the current time.
