In what has become arguably the more entertaining facet of Pro Bowl weekend compared to the game itself, the team captains for the game will choose their players this evening in the annual Pro Bowl Draft. This year's captains are a pair of Hall of Fame wide receivers who were rivals for a time during the 1990s. One team will be led by former San Francisco 49ers wideout Jerry Rice, while the Cowboys' Michael Irvin is running the other squad.
Four Packers are in Hawaii for this year's game and will hear their names called tonight. Those players are linebackers Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers, guard Josh Sitton, and fullback John Kuhn. Peppers is making his ninth Pro Bowl appearance this week, while it is Matthews' sixth, Sitton's third, and Kuhn's third.
Joining the Packers players will be their coaching staff sans head coach Mike McCarthy, who had to back out of the game due to an illness. Winston Moss will head up the unit coaching one of the two teams in the game on Sunday. The other team will be coached by Andy Reid and the Chiefs' coaches. Along with selecting the players, Rice and Irvin will select their coaching staffs during the draft tonight as well.
The league replaced a whopping 14 players for the game when the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers advanced to the Super Bowl. Carolina had 10 individuals selected initially, while Denver had four.
Here is how you can tune in for tonight's draft, if you are so inclined.
