Cheese Curds, 1/29: Packers' scouts wrap up at the Senior Bowl

New, comments

Friday is a light day in Mobile, as players and coaches prepare for the actual Senior Bowl game on Saturday.

Glenn Andrews-USA TODAY Sports

Thursday's Senior Bowl practice in Mobile, Alabama is the final full practice of the week, which means that it was the final chance for the numerous college football players and NFL Draft prospects to make impressions on league scouts with their one-on-one and drill work. Saturday's game will certainly be a chance for them to make a final statement, but that in general tends to matter less than the work during the week.

While some big names like Braxton Miller, Carson Wentz, and Sheldon Rankins have been standout players, keep an eye on some of the lesser-known names mentioned in today's practice recap below. At least one report said that Ted Thompson has been scouting the defensive linemen closely, but it's Ted so let's face it: he's probably got pages of notes on every single player present for the week.

In some of today's other curds, we find a long-time Packer who is breaking into acting in a film franchise that he loves, as well as a look at how the Packers' four Super Bowl MVP performances stack up in the last 49 years.

2015 Packers by the Numbers |
A few interesting nuggest here include the Packers posting their most tackles for loss since 2009 (when they had the #2-ranked defense in the league) and the fact that the offensive line was charged with 34 sacks on the season, up from last year's 16.5.

Daniels' deal bodes well for defensive line |
Diesel's extension obviously makes him the leader of the unit, which will face a tumultuous offseason as a pair of key players hit free agency.

Plays that shaped Green Bay Packers' season: Mason Crosby's missed FG - ESPN
Welp. If this kick had been good, we would have been talking about a very different narrative - a great comeback instead of the Packers' first loss to Detroit at home in nearly 25 years.

10 players who seized their last chance to shine at Senior Bowl -
Here are a few names who made waves on Thursday in Mobile, and this list contains a lot of names of under-the-radar players who had good performances.

Randall Cobb makes good role model for Braxton Miller |
Both players made a transition to wide receiver after playing quarterback, and although they have different body types, the process of the switch and potential for versatility is where the two share some characteristics.
