Packers Thursday Injury Report: Starks excused for personal issue, Tretter limited

New, comments

There were few changes to either team’s injury reports from Wednesday, and the Packers’ running back group remains unsettled.

On Thursday, the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys were back on the practice field once again, working in preparation for Sunday’s week six matchup at Lambeau Field.

For the Packers, the status of the running backs is arguably the biggest story on the report. Starter Eddie Lacy continued to put in limited work today, but head coach Mike McCarthy sounded optimistic about his availability for Sunday. Speaking about Lacy, McCarthy said that “he’s good”, suggesting that he should be able to play. After practice, Lacy said that playing on Sunday is “what we’re shooting for.”

Wednesday’s surprise on the list, James Starks, again was not at practice, and McCarthy revealed the reason in his press conference this afternoon. Apparently the reason is twofold. First, Starks tweaked his knee after Tuesday’s practice. The second, and more serious factor, is that there has been a death in Starks’ family, and he was excused for a few days. McCarthy said that the running back is expected to be back in time for Saturday’s practice, the final walkthrough before the team takes the field on Saturday afternoon.

The two changes to the Packers’ injury report involved offensive linemen. Starting guard T.J. Lang was on yesterday’s report as a full participant, but he was downgraded to limited today with a hip issue. Likewise, center JC Tretter, who has not appeared on the report all season, showed up as limited today with a back issue.

Stay tuned for any further news on those two key players.
