The Green Bay Packers’ secondary is officially in panic mode tonight. For this evening’s game against the New York Giants, the Packers will be without both starting cornerbacks, as second-year corner Damarious Randall landed on tonight’s inactive list with a groin injury.
Randall joins Sam Shields on the bench, as the veteran was ruled out early this week with a concussion. That leaves the Packers with just four healthy players capable of playing the cornerback position: Quinten Rollins, LaDarius Gunter, Josh Hawkins, and safety/corner Micah Hyde.
The rest of the Packers’ inactives are no surprise - Jared Cook sits due to injury, and the team has deactivated a pair of young defensive linemen. That is likely due to matchups - the Packers will likely go with a lot of nickel and dime formations against the Giants’ deep receiving corps, leading to fewer snaps for the down linemen.
Meanwhile, the Giants have a starting safety out, but two of their top corners who were listed as questionable (Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Eli Apple) are both active for tonight’s game. Here are the full inactive reports for both teams.
