Ha Ha Clinton-Dix has plenty to celebrate this week. Now only did the Green Bay Packers’ third-year safety earn his first Pro Bowl bid, but the NFL has also named him NFC Defensive Player of the Week.
This past Sunday, Clinton-Dix intercepted Chicago Bears quarterback Matt Barkley twice, setting up the Packers in great field position. Aaron Rodgers and the offense responded by scoring 17 points off turnovers, helping to put away the pesky Bears and secure Green Bay its eighth win of the season.
Clinton-Dix has come into his own this year, becoming more of a ball hawk (five interceptions, most in the conference) and a steadier tackler. While he has yet to reach the level of the Packers’ last Pro Bowl safety, Nick Collins, Clinton-Dix has given the defense reliable center-field play, allowing fellow safety Morgan Burnett to spend more of his time in the box and given an inconsistent cornerback group help over the top.
