Cheese Curds, 3/14: Packers quiet as free agency bargain shopping is underway

Though we're getting into the lower-cost area of free agency, Ted Thompson is still showing no signs of free agent activity as yet.

Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

True to form, the Green Bay Packers have not signed any free agents from other teams so far in the 2016 league year. If this is a surprise, you have not been paying close attention to the Packers' typical operations under Ted Thompson.

Green Bay did re-sign Nick Perry for one year, however, while losing Casey Hayward and Scott Tolzien to multi-year contracts with AFC teams. Ultimately, now that two players have departed, the Packers could potentially sign an unrestricted free agent and still earn a compensatory pick in 2017.

A signing is certainly more likely this week than last, now that the crazy money has been spent and the big-name players are off the market. For example, tight ends like Zach Miller are still available, and linebackers like Zach Brown and Craig Robertson are looking for new homes as well. Time will tell if any of those names interest the Packers.

In the meantime, let's take a look at some silly letters to Vic and look back at past free agency periods in today's curds.
