Packers mock draft: Rams-Titans trade doesn't affect Packers' selection

In the latest SB Nation mock draft, the take Louisiana Tech defensive lineman Vernon Butler.

For the first time since the Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans announced their blockbuster draft trade, SB Nation has released a new mock draft. In it, mock-draft curator Dan Kadar examines the fallout from the landscape-shifting move, including the now-likely prospect that back-to-back quarterbacks come off the board to kick off the draft.

However, the big trade doesn't change much for teams selecting at the end of the first round such as the Green Bay Packers. While Kadar has the team taking a different player than in past weeks -- in this case, Louisiana Tech defensive lineman Vernon Butler -- the majority of their options remain the same.

Though from a smaller FBS school, Butler looks like the type of versatile interior defender that Dom Capers could move around at will. He could play the five-tech, a position temporarily vacated by suspended the Mike Pennel, or he could line up further inside at the nose or three-tech. In any case, Butler has the mass required to stuff the run as well as the movement skills and power to develop into a reliable interior pass rusher.

Here's what Kadar had to say about the Packers' selection:

27. Green Bay Packers - Vernon Butler, DT, Louisiana Tech

Butler can give the Packers a defensive lineman who is capable of playing over the nose or lining up as an end in a three-man front. He is a strong bull rusher who can push blockers around with his power.
