Acme Packing Company's 2016 mock draft continues on with picks three and four in round one, as we release the first-round picks over the course of this week. The rules were simple: seven authors were assigned four or five teams apiece, and made the picks for each of those teams whenever they came up. We will pick the first three rounds of the draft.
Round 1, Pick 3: San Diego Chargers select DB Jalen Ramsey, Florida State
Here's APC's Doug Moore with the explanation on his pick:
The Chargers have three good, if not better, cornerbacks right now with Jason Verrett, Casey Heyward, and Brandon Flowers. But their safety depth is very sub-par at the moment with Dwight Lowery and Jahleel Addae as the projected starters. With Jalen Ramsey playing safety and taking over Eric Weddle's role (which he very well could be an upgrade from), the Chargers can go from having an above-average secondary to a terrific one. Ramsey is almost unarguably the best secondary prospect in this draft and with the Chargers needing help at almost every level, this would be a terrific pick by San Diego. Plus, with such a deep class on the defensive line in this draft, the Chargers can easily go after plenty of D-Line talent later in the draft.
Round 1, Pick 4: Dallas Cowboys select DE Joey Bosa, Ohio State
Jason B. Hirschhorn had the "honor" of playing Jerry Jones in this exercise. Here's what he had to say about Bosa:
The decision the Cowboys make at No. 4 could change the entire completion of the draft. If they select a quarterback as owner Jerry Jones has publicly suggested they might, that leaves one less potential franchise signal-caller for those seeking one. Alternatively, drafting a top defender takes away an elite prospect from the teams drafting behind them.
Ultimately, the team's expectations for Tony Romo should determine this pick. If, as Jones predicts, Romo can play for another four or so seasons, Dallas should use their top selection on a player that can help them win now. The team narrowly missed on Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey, the player most hold as the top player in the class. Still, they can salvage the situation with Ohio State's Joey Bosa. While he has a lower ceiling than some other pass rushers in this class, Bosa can step onto an NFL field tomorrow and cause problems for opposing offenses.
