Acme Packing Company's 2016 mock draft continues on with picks five and six in round one, as we release the first-round picks over the course of this week. The rules were simple: seven authors were assigned four or five teams apiece, and made the picks for each of those teams whenever they came up. We will pick the first three rounds of the draft.
Here are the selections for the Jaguars and Ravens in round one.
Round 1, Pick 5: Jacksonville Jaguars select LB Myles Jack, UCLA
On the clock for the Jaguars was Zach Roethlisberger. Here's what he had to say about his selection:The Jacksonville Jaguars had a ton of cap space entering free agency this off-season and chose to spend it on players Malik Jackson, Kelvin Beachum, Tashaun Gipson, and Chris Ivory to name a few. With the strides we saw the Jaguars offense take last season, their defense will seemingly be a force to be reckoned with as well this season. Along with the free agent additions, the Jaguars will also get to see their first round pick in 2015, Dante Fowler Jr, in action after missing the entire season with an injury.
Staying with the defensive makeover agenda, the Jaguars look to improve their linebacking core by drafting the highest rated linebacker in the draft, Myles Jack. Jack missed most of the 2015 season at UCLA with a knee injury, but has still maintained his place among the top prospects in this year's class. He is one of the most versatile guys I have seen coming out of college with his speed and athleticism, and should be a great piece in what may be a very surprising Jaguars team next season.
Round 1, Pick 6: Baltimore Ravens select DE DeForest Buckner, Oregon
Tex Western's first pick in the mock was this selection for Baltimore. Here's his discussion of the choice:
Is there a better match of system and player than Buckner in Baltimore's attacking 3-4 defense? They have their nose tackle in Brandon Williams and their 3-tech end in Timmy Jernigan, who has a Mike Daniels-like build and trajectory. Now, they get a perfect 5-technique in the 6'7" Buckner. That was even his position in college as a Duck, making him as perfect a fit as one can find in this draft.
Baltimore could certainly use some help at linebacker, but there isn't a player left at that position who can make the instant impact that is expected of a top-six pick. Buckner can do just that, providing both solid play against the run as well as pass rush on the interior and completing the Ravens' line for the foreseeable future.
